Eagle Village First Nation is situated along the beautiful shores of Kipawa Lake.
Eagle Village
First Nation located in the province of Quebec, approximately 80km
west of North
Bay, Ontario and adjacent to the Town of Temiscaming,
Quebec approximately 10 Kilometers west. The community is accessible
from the west via North Bay, Ontario using Highway 63 and from the
North via Ville-Marie, Quebec, using Highway 101. The community is
bound on the west by the Ottawa River. Our community occupies a
territory of 21.49 hectares.
As of
April
2010, our membership population
is 821.
with an on reserve population of approximately
325.
Our First language spoken in the
community is English followed by Algonquin and French.
The name Kipawa comes from the
Algonquin word "kebaowek",
which means "enclosed" or "locked up",
and refers to the name of the lake.
